Mike Oldfield
Mike Oldfield (born 1953) was 19 when he began recording Tubular Bells, playing almost every instrument himself — and the album became the very first release on Richard Branson's new Virgin Records label in 1973. After The Exorcist used its opening piano theme, it sold an estimated 15 million copies and spent 288 weeks on the UK chart. A decade later, Moonlight Shadow with Maggie Reilly went to No. 1 across much of Europe.
