Neil Young earned the nickname "Godfather of Grunge" decades before grunge even existed — his raw, distorted guitar work directly inspired Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, and the entire Seattle scene. Born in Toronto in 1945, he moved through Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and a solo career that produced "Heart of Gold" from 1972's Harvest, his only US #1 hit. He's the rare artist inducted into the Rock Hall twice.
