Ramones
The Ramones formed in Queens, New York in 1974 — four unrelated guys (Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy) who all adopted the surname Ramone. Their 1976 self-titled debut album packed 14 songs into 29 minutes, was recorded in 7 days for just $6,400, and essentially invented punk rock. Despite never having a Top 40 hit themselves, they directly inspired the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Green Day, and countless others.
