Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash (1932–2003) walked into California's Folsom State Prison on January 13, 1968, with his career in serious decline — and walked out with one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. He had performed at over 30 prisons by then, a longtime advocate for prison reform. The "Man in Black" wore black for the poor and forgotten, recording "Folsom Prison Blues" inspired by a B-movie, never having served time himself.
