Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin took their name from a joke — Keith Moon of The Who quipped that the project would "go down like a lead balloon." Formed in London in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page after The Yardbirds split, the lineup of Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham went on to sell over 300 million records, invent heavy metal, and record "Stairway to Heaven." The band disbanded immediately after Bonham's death in 1980.
