The Byrds
The Byrds invented folk rock in a single afternoon in January 1965. Roger McGuinn — only the third person on earth to own a Rickenbacker 12-string guitar, after George Harrison — electrified Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" with chiming arpeggios and Beatles-style harmonies. When Dylan first heard their version, he reportedly exclaimed, "Wow, you can even dance to that!" Their cover became the only Dylan song ever to top the US pop charts.
