Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980, originally as a four-piece with Vince Clarke as primary songwriter. Clarke wrote their breakthrough hit "Just Can't Get Enough" — then quit the band at the end of 1981, just as they were poised for global success. He went on to form Yazoo and Erasure, while Martin Gore took over songwriting and steered Depeche Mode toward the dark, brooding electronic sound that defined them.
