Coldplay

GBR

Coldplay formed at University College London in 1996, when Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland met during orientation week. They cycled through two earlier names — Pectoralz, then Starfish — before settling on Coldplay in 1998. Their 2000 debut Parachutes broke through worldwide on the strength of "Yellow," won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album, and launched them toward 100 million records sold and seven Grammys.
