U2
U2 began with a notice pinned to a Dublin school bulletin board. In September 1976, 14-year-old drummer Larry Mullen Jr. posted an ad at Mount Temple Comprehensive School looking for musicians — Paul Hewson (later Bono), David Evans (The Edge), and Adam Clayton answered. Their 1987 album The Joshua Tree has sold over 25 million copies, won Album of the Year, and helped them become the biggest Irish band in history with 150+ million records sold.
