Linkin Park's debut album Hybrid Theory (2000) became the best-selling album of 2001 and the best-selling debut of the entire 2000s decade, going Diamond in the US with over 27 million copies sold worldwide. Formed in California in 1996, the band built a fusion of metal riffing, hip-hop verses, and electronic beats. Chester Bennington joined in 1999 after Mike Shinoda heard his demo tape — and the rest is rock history.
