Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison's dark sunglasses — the most iconic look in rock — happened by accident: he left his regular glasses on a plane before a 1963 tour and had to wear his prescription shades on stage instead. With his soaring three-octave voice, he was one of the few American artists who kept charting during the British Invasion — "Oh, Pretty Woman" knocked the Beatles off #1 in 1964. He died of a heart attack in 1988, aged 52.
