The Doors

USA

The Doors formed in summer 1965 when UCLA film school classmates Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek bumped into each other by chance on Venice Beach. Morrison recited some lyrics he'd written, and Manzarek immediately suggested they start a band. They named themselves after Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, scored a #1 with "Light My Fire" in 1967, and released six albums in just six years before Morrison's death in 1971.
