The Who

GBR

When Pete Townshend accidentally smashed his guitar at a 1964 Who concert, the audience's wild reaction convinced him to keep doing it — in 1967 alone, he destroyed over 35 guitars. The London quartet of Daltrey, Townshend, Entwistle, and Moon went on to invent the rock opera with 1969's Tommy and have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Their explosive live shows established the template for everything that came after in rock theatricality.
